Highbury Christmas Craft Fair

Well the venue was great. We had a fabulous table. There were rather a lot of jewellery stalls but there was also a wide range of other stalls, ceramics, glass, hats and handbags including one selling hot chocolate drinks. In all a very interesting assortment.

The weather started fine but then the rain came and the footfall fell. Funnily enough the sales I made were when the weather was good. My friend was also selling jewellery (a totally different style to mine) and she had a really good day. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and look forward to the next one.

So glad I haven't sold everything or I would have been up 'til all hours to make enough to sell for next Saturday at windsor High School. So the pressure is off and I can relax for a few days.

The night before....

Well not sure I'm ready for tomorrow (my first Christmas craft fair) but unusually I dont feel as though I need to do anything else in preparation. Fingers crossed I haven't forgotten anything. Hope I don't oversleep in the morning if I do I may be at panic stations.

I have this strange urge to sit and make something but can't decide what. I've looked through my beads and theres no inspiration and I can't find the wire I need to finish off something thats half made. I think I'll have a tidy up tomorrow when the fair is over and I can return to some state of normality til the next weekend.

Visited a friend for a jewellry making morning. An excuse for a good chinwag and a morning out of the house. I took all my work and spent some time trying to put realistic prices on them for the forthcoming Christmas craft fair. I find pricing very difficult but it has to be done. Then decided to make use of some odd beads and create some Place markers for knitters. Will take some pics and put them up here later in the week. However this morning before I went out I took some pics of recently completed bracelets and necklaces. The one with purple squares also has earrings and a pendant.

Oh Dear, I dont think I have got the hang of inserting pictures correctly yet. Never mind at least they appear on the page. 'Til next time.

Improving skills - chainmaille

Time flies. I thought I would be able to update this blog daily but as you can see its been a few days now. I've been busy. I spent some time trying to recreate the byzantine chainmaille pattern eventually succeeded and the result was this bracelet.

Then I moved on to making a few pairs of earrings in byzantine plus these below in queens weave.

Trying to put together leaflets and business cards for Saturdays Christmas fair but these are still in progress. Oh I also found time for some very long walks and a few swims. Got to go now I have a top to finish sewing for my daughter.

Start preparations for Christmas Craft fairs

Less than 2 weeks to my first Christmas craft fair. I suddenly realise I need to prepare business cards, leaflets, stall decorations (its christmas after all) and I haven't finalised any plan for pricing. Pricing now theres an issue do I mark all items individually or have them grouped by price. I hope I have enough jewellery. Never mind that now here are some pictures of what I make.

Starter for 10 - Hobbies

No idea where to start. Oh well here goes.

I've always had various hobbies but currently learning about the craft of jewellery making has captivated me. Jewellery to me is not just a body ornament but can also adorn the home, car, clothing etc. The uses for jewellery is only limited by the imagination.

The techniques for making jewellery are simple if you use beads and just string them but can be as complicated as you like. For example make the beads yourself, use wirework, chainmaille, make your own fasteners. Other crafts like knitting, crochet, tatting, weaving and lacemaking can also be used to achieve different effects.

Later I will be adding examples of items I have made, or favorite items made by other talented people plus links to sites with tutorials
